What is Service Learning?
Service-learning helps students learn and develop through thoughtfully organized service that -
- Is conducted in and meets the needs of a community and is coordinated with the community
- Helps foster civic responsibility
- Is integrated into and enhances the student's academic curriculum
- Includes structured time to reflect on the service experience.
- Personal Growth: self esteem, responsibility, values and beliefs. Social Growth: communication and interpersonal skills.
- Intellectual Growth: critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills.
- Citizenship: civic responsibility, awareness of community needs and individual contributions to a larger society.
- Workplace preparation/career exploration: consistency and regular attendance, skills related to specific jobs, career exploration and problem solving skills.
